In physical art, nature itself can become the medium, with elements like soil, plants and living material. Digital art, by contrast, usually keeps nature as subject, something depicted rather than used. This series subverts that: nature inhabits the digital medium, mutating pixels with its own forces.
In Plume, abstract geometric bird feathers emerge as shrubs and groves forever undulating. In Hysteresis, a system of interconnected nodes is constantly disrupted, accumulating a history of change through feedback loops that prevent it from ever returning to its original state. And in Wildfire, pixels take fire and spread from screen to screen without abandon.
These are long form artworks: left running, their state a day, a week, or a month from now will be entirely different.
